Why You Should Pick My Brain About Your Next Public Health E-Learning Project
One of my favorite ways to work with clients is through “Pick My Brain” strategy sessions. These offer clients a quick, low commitment, and affordable option to get support for an e-learning instructional design project.
“Pick My Brain” sessions SOLVE PROBLEMS for clients. For example:
You don’t have the budget to hire an instructional designer to lead the whole project, but would benefit from their insight!
You are stuck in some part of the project (e.g., advocating for a needs analysis, pivoting from your original plan, experiencing challenges working with your subject matter experts, etc.)
You are being asked to play every role on the project (i.e., instructional designer, subject matter expert, and technology lead) and you could really use a sounding board to discuss your ideas.
Prior to our session, I’ll ask you to identify 1-3 priority questions you want to discuss during our meeting.
Here’s a sample of “Pick My Brain” questions I’ve received from past clients:
I’m creating an online course for the first time. How do I get started?
What are the best training formats for adult learners new to a field?
What should my work plan look like to develop a new e-learning course?
I want to plan a course evaluation that goes beyond satisfaction with the training, any advice?
Can you help me design a needs analysis?
How do I deal with the needs analysis totally changing the original plan for an online course or training?
My goal with every “Pick My Brain” session is for you to leave with CLEAR ACTION STEPS.
After each 60-minute phone or Zoom session, you will receive:
A detailed call summary including:
Key talking points
Relevant topic resources
Specific action steps
Clients have the option of purchasing one “Pick My Brain” session or a four-session package. Packages have been extremely valuable for clients who want ongoing consultation (e.g., weekly, monthly, quarterly) as they develop an online course or training.
“Pick My Brain” sessions are a great fit whether you work at a public health organization or as a self-employed public health consultant.
Here is a testimonial shared by a fellow public health consultant:
“I worked with Leah through a 'Pick My Brain' session, to discuss some best practices in instructional design as I was working on a contract as a content expert for a data storytelling course. Leah provided tailored strategies for me to implement and keep in mind for future projects as well. As someone who is primarily immersed in the content development side of a course, webinar, or training, the support I received via this session contributed to my ability to problem-solve and present actionable solutions to the client.
I highly recommend Leah for your instructional and course design needs!”

Think about a current or past public health e-learning project you’ve worked on:
What challenges did you encounter?
What questions would you have loved to ask an instructional designer, especially one that was external to your team or business?
