Three Big Roman Public Health Consulting Wins in 2025
Goodbye 2025!
We made it to December. It has been a very hard year for public health. The hardest in the 20 years I’ve worked in this field.
I felt the attacks on public health both personally and professionally. Like many of you, it has taken a lot of effort to keep pushing, pivoting, and finding ways to do the work I love.
As I’m reflecting and planning for 2026, I’ve made note of three big wins for my business in the past year:
1. Collaboration with fellow public health consultants
As times have gotten tough, I feel like this group has really pulled together. The majority of my 2025 projects came directly from relationships with fellow consultants, in the form of referrals and subcontracting opportunities. I am incredibly grateful to my colleagues for thinking of me, referring to me, and hiring me.
Your trust in me never goes unnoticed or unappreciated.
2. Niching down into accessibility within public health e-learning and instructional design
As always, I find that having a specialty gives consultants more direction in terms of professional development goals, identifying collaborators and clients, and being an easier referral for those in your network.
Digital accessibility is a high priority for public health departments and organizations, given the upcoming rule change for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II. These organizations have compliance deadlines coming up in 2026 and 2027, and I’m so happy to be of service through strategy sessions, trainings, and hands-on projects.
This niche has also helped me identify ways to improve my skills and knowledge to better support my clients. For example, this year I studied hard and passed my Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) exam.
3. Opportunities to write for publication
As a public health and health education practitioner, it can be difficult to find and fund opportunities to write manuscripts for publication. If you work outside of the academic or research setting, publications may not be prioritized. You may lack access to institutional review boards (IRBs), online publication and research databases, and other resources that support writing.
In 2025, I’ve been thrilled to have a few opportunities to write for publication (manuscripts are currently in development or under review, so I’ll report back in 2026 on their status and success!)
In a year where science and evidence are being questioned, it feels special to have these opportunities with colleagues and clients to write papers that can have broad reach and important implications for our field.
As a consultant and business owner, I also appreciate the opportunity to publish on accessibility, e-learning, and instructional design, as they are my passion and publications will allow me to connect with others who share these passions or need support in these areas.
I’d Love to Hear From You!
What’s a big win that you had in 2025?
