It is almost here! For months I have been working on my first online course, and I am excited to finally share the details with you!
On Monday, February 4, 2019 I will launch:
Contemplating Consulting: A readiness guide to help public health professionals decide to hit the brakes or take the leap.
This two-hour, self-paced online course will be available year-round.
Why did I create this course? Simple answer- because of you. I have gotten So Many Questions about consulting over the past six years. I am talking at least 100 inquiries. It makes sense. With technology making it easier to work remotely and a desire among many professionals to build more flexible work schedules, there is a lot of interest in consulting and self-employment in general. Given that most public health students and professionals have the same questions (e.g., Do I have enough experience to be a consultant? How do you get started? How do you find clients?), I decided to design a course that would present this information (plus all my best advice!) and empower course students to assess their readiness to start their own consulting business.
What will you learn? Lots of stuff! By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1- Describe the roles and responsibilities of a self-employed public health consultant.
2- Assess their level of readiness to launch a public health consulting business.
3- Initiate preliminary action steps to launch a public health consulting business.
Instead of jumping into consulting blindly (like I did), I want to give you a realistic view of the transition from employee to business owner. I want you to understand all the things you will do besides public health work (spoiler alert- you will not just get to make logic models all day!) And I want to give you tools to assess your readiness to launch and sustain a successful business.
When and how can you purchase the course? It will be available on my website starting February 4, 2019. The regular course price is $149, but I will be running a special launch price of $129 from February 4-11, 2019. Can you get continuing education credits? Yes you can! The course has been approved for 2 Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH) by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. The course is approved for both entry-level and advanced credits (I am looking out for you fellow MCHES- I know advanced CECH are hard to find!)
Can you get a sneak preview of course content? Yes you can! The course has several downloadable resources and assessment forms, and I am sharing one here for FREE. In the course, I talk about real life for business owners. One of the biggest surprises for me was all the expenses I had! I thought expenses would be minimal since I worked from my home office. I thought I just needed a computer and a business card and I would be on my way. NOPE! So I want you to be much better prepared than I was.
