As public health professionals, we are used to being subject matter experts in public health research, data, and practice. However, we are not typically experts in how people learn.

This can make it extremely difficult to create engaging and effective online learning experiences. As a result, public health audiences frequently receive the dreaded “info dump” when they take an online course or training. They are bombarded with information, often without the opportunity to engage with the material and apply it to real world situations.

This can create multiple problems including frustrated learners and performance issues or learning gaps that are still not addressed.

Roman Public Health Consulting LLC is committed to working at the intersection of public health and e-learning instructional design. Using my unique experience in both fields, I help public health organizations:

  • Investigate why a performance issue exists

  • Determine if a training solution is needed

  • Create a project plan

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts

  • Integrate adult learning theory

  • Design engaging online learning experiences

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the learning solution

  • Assess the accessibility of online courses and trainings
